As a child, Andrea Ewing knew she wanted to be a teacher.
“As a young six-year-old girl, playing school was my favorite thing to do,” said Ewing. “I loved teaching my dolls and stuffed animals. It was at that young age that I knew I wanted to be a teacher.”
Ewing began her teaching career at Mountain View Elementary in Layton, teaching kindergarten for three years before moving to West Clinton Elementary to be closer to home. She has been a West Clinton Clipper for 21 years.
“I’ve never looked back ever since. Our teachers, administration, PTA and community are the best in the West!” she said.
In 2023, Ewing was named a “Best of Davis” elementary teacher and was selected as one of the top five finalists for Teacher of the Year.
Teaching remains her passion.
“A motto that I’ve given myself for many years is that ‘if I’m not having fun, my students are definitely not having fun!’” she said. “I constantly strive to be the best teacher I can be for the ‘Happy Campers’ that get to spend their school days with me.”
Ewing described her teaching as incredibly rewarding.
“I learn so much every school year. I love building strong, supporting relationships with my first graders, especially at this critical stage in their lives. I love helping to set the tone for their future learning. Teaching requires a lot of dedication, patience and a deep sense of purpose EVERYDAY! Happy Campers always have s’more fun, everyday!”
