Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and we certainly appreciate everything that the Centerville Police Department does to keep our students and community safe. We especially appreciate our School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Kasey Scott!
Officer Scott is awesome! The students at Taylor Elementary love to see him and ask him all sorts of questions. We love to have him be a positive role model and trusted adult for our students. This is Officer Scott’s third year as an SRO at all the schools in Centerville City. He has been an officer and detective with Centerville Police Department for 7 years and says that the role of an SRO is the most rewarding position in the police force.
He gets to work closely with the 6th grade students in the DARE program to teach about decision making and resistance strategies. He helps all students learn more about how to be a productive member of the community, discourages bullying, provides support for what to do in various emergency situations, intervenes when there are safety concerns, and shares community resources with students and families.
Officer Scott is a Davis County native, graduated from the Weber State University Police Academy, and still resides in Davis County with his family. He said that he has always had an interest in police work and wanted to stand up for what is right and help people, so he became a police officer about 10 years ago.
We are grateful for Officer Scott and the Centerville Police Department!

We are ready to start the second half of the school year today! We hope you are all well rested from the break and are ready to get back into action. We can't believe that we haven't seen you since last year! We have missed you all and are excited to learn and grow with you!

Parent Teacher Conferences are approaching! We love to have the opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to meet together to discuss the progress of the students. Conferences will be held on Wednesday, January 29 and Thursday, January 30. Parents and guardians, please log in to your myDSD account to schedule a time to meet with each of your children's teachers. Scheduling is open from January 7 at 8:00 am to January 21 at 11:59 pm. Please contact the main office if you need assistance with accessing myDSD.

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones! We are excited to see students again on Tuesday, January 7 for the beginning of third term.

We had some special visitors from the North Pole at Taylor Elementary School! Buddy the Elf helped Santa and Mrs. Claus go to each classroom to deliver a treat and say hello! A key reminder from Santa was for the fabulous students of Taylor to continue to be on the nice list.

"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear." -Buddy the Elf
Our Christmas sing-along assembly this morning was full of cheer and laughter! Each grade level sang a carol to the school. We even had a mischievous Grinch, a smiling Elf, and joyful Mr. and Mrs. Claus!

Happy Holidays everyone! Please have a safe and enjoyable time with loved ones. All schools and offices will be closed for winter break. We will see you again on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

There was an incognito game amongst the faculty and staff today, but many students caught on and attempted to help their teachers. Mrs. Quist and Ms. Loosle planned a Grinch Game where six grinch portraits were distributed throughout the school. It was a battle throughout the day to see which staff members ended up with the grinch. Congrats to these six winners!

The sixth-grade students were able to go to Viewmont High School recently for their annual "Cookie Concert." Viewmont and the neighboring junior high schools invite the sixth graders in their boundaries to come and get excited about band. Our students learned about some of the instruments that they could play when they move on to junior high.

Centerville Junior High School Madrigals came to perform for us today. It was fun to see some Taylor Elementary School alumni amongst the group. We were highly entertained. Thank you, Centerville Chargers!

Our sixth-grade orchestra went caroling down the halls of Taylor Elementary School today. They brought some holiday cheer as they played a selection of songs for students. They did amazing!

Congratulations to Mrs. Halversen and the current third graders! Last school year, Mrs. Halversen's second grade class had 100% of the students make well above typical, above typical, or typical growth in Acadience Reading. This is not an easy feat. Every single student made significant growth in reading! Well done to Mrs. Halversen and her students. Some of those second graders are lucky to have her again this year as their third-grade teacher.
Today, Ms. Keller, the Area Director for Taylor Elementary School came to recognize Mrs. Halversen and her outstanding work as a teacher.
2023-2024 Acadience Reading Growth for Mrs. Halversen's Second Grade Class
82% Well Above Typical Growth
14% Above Typical Growth
4% Typical Growth

Our third-grade students are lucky to have Mrs. Halversen or Ms. Menlove as their teachers! These two are exceptional at teaching students about multiplication, division, Earth and Space, rights and responsibilities as community members, and much, much, more! We appreciate them and all that they do!
Mrs. Jeni Halversen loves helping students find joy in learning new things and supporting them in navigating challenges. She has been a teacher for 14 years, with the last 4 at Taylor Elementary with fantastic teachers and staff. Like the words of Buddy the Elf, Mrs. Halversen says, “Teaching is my favorite!”
Ms. Shauntelle Menlove loves teaching some of the best kids at Taylor Elementary School in the best grade in the best community! She has worked here for 5 years and has loved every moment. When she was in third grade, she wanted to be a paleontologist.

Winter Break is approaching! The end of 2nd term is on Friday, December 20. All schools in the district will be on an early out dismissal schedule (1:30 pm for Taylor Elementary School). Thank you to all who have ever donated money to Taylor Elementary School! We appreciate those donations which allow us to support our students and families. If you find that you are able to donate (whether it is now, in the holiday spirit, or any other time throughout the year) we heartily welcome your donations.
The donation site is available on the Taylor Elementary Website > Menu > Parent Resources > Donations. We have two donation bins set up. One is for General School Donations which is used at the discretion of the principal, office manager, and JSSC to support teachers and students in their classrooms. The other fund is Donations for Christmas, which is used at the discretion of the principal and our family advocate who help identify students and families in need with coats, shoes, food, and other household needs.
We appreciate these donations! We also understand that not all are able to donate money, and we appreciate the other ways in which you support our school. THANK YOU!
