There’s something different about competition at a Unified Sports tournament.
Recently, nine Davis School District high schools came together for the annual Unified Soccer Tournament, where students took to the pitch to compete, cheer each other on and build friendships across school communities.
Unified Sports brings students with and without intellectual disabilities together to train and compete as teammates. Teams participated in competitive and developmental divisions, creating opportunities for athletes of different abilities to contribute, compete and celebrate together.
Throughout the tournament, athletes were met with cheers, high-fives and encouragement — no matter which school they represented or which team scored the goal. While the teams competed on the field, the atmosphere reflected something bigger: a community coming together to celebrate every athlete.
For many students, the best part of Unified Sports is simple — scoring goals and spending time with friends. Those shared experiences can create connections that extend beyond the game and help build a stronger sense of belonging across our schools.
